FDK CORPORATION (Tokyo Stock Exchange Standard Section: Code 6955, "FDK")
has developed the new product "HY0021" as the second product
in the world's smallest class*1 of Bluetooth Low Energy Modules. FDK starts sample shipments to the global market in October 2024. The modules (HY0020*2 and HY0021) were developed using Slot Antenna on Shielded Package technology licensed from Toshiba Corporation (President and CEO: Taro Shimada, "Toshiba") based on the concept of easily developing ultra-compact devices that can be installed anywhere by packing the components necessary for Bluetooth communication into the world's smallest volume. The size of the new HY0021 is 3.5 x 10mm, the same as the conventional product (HY0020), but with improved radiation efficiency of the antenna. In addition, the cost has been reduced by changing the built-in IC and reviewing the memory capacity and number of GPIOs, enabling easy, lower-cost, and simpler miniaturization of the device. Therefore, it is suitable for small medical devices to manage sensing data up to the cloud, loss prevention tags that transmit beacons (Beacon) to smartphones, and monitoring tags that notify families of elderly people and children when they go out or come home. Main Features 1. Increased flexibility in positioning peripheral components Toshiba's technology positions the larger part of the slot antenna*3 on the top of the module, realizing a shielded package*4 integrating an antenna. The narrow keep-out zone where wiring or placing components are not allowed leads to higher flexibility in placement of surrounding components. 2. Realizing low power consumption data transmission simply by connecting a sensor to a battery Despite its small size, the module integrates a high-speed quartz crystal unit*5, a low-speed quartz crystal unit*6, and passive components around the power supply. Connecting sensors and batteries to the module quickly and easily configures a low power consumption IoT component that can connect people and things. Toshiba's proprietary Slot Antenna on Shielded Package technology ensures an all-in-one package*7 for Bluetooth Low Energy communication with edge devices in advanced IoT systems. Main Applications Wearable devices, healthcare, tracking, clothing, small electronic devices Specifications As of October 21, 2024. Specifications are subject to change without notice.
