FDK CORPORATION (Tokyo Stock Exchange Standard Section: Code 6955) achieved
a cumulative total of 1.5 billion lithium batteries shipped in August of
this year. The lithium batteries developed, manufactured and sold at our Tottori Plant (Iwami-cho, Iwami-gun, Tottori, Japan) are used in a wide range of fields both in Japan and overseas, including various smart meter related devices, IoT devices, security devices, fire and gas alarms, medical devices and in-vehicle applications. In order to maximize battery performance, quality and productivity and to ensure customer satisfaction with our mainstay high power cylindrical-type primary lithium primary batteries, we have been promoting product and equipment design that makes the most of our unique strengths. Furthermore, we are working to build a traceability system and to create a foundation for realizing a smart factory that incorporates IoT. Since acquiring the Tottori plant in 2010, we have steadily increased our shipment volume by increasing production capacity through the addition of assembly lines and improving production efficiency through the reorganization of the plant (utilizing the second factory building), and we have now achieved a cumulative shipment volume of 1.5 billion units. As a result of the significant increase in the amount of information and communication traffic due to the increasing use of smart devices, the number of devices that use batteries and the number of batteries used in each device is expected to increase, and demand for lithium batteries is expected to continue to grow. We aim to achieve our next target of 2 billion units shipped by 2030. In addition, the Tottori plant is also working towards achieving carbon neutrality in order to realize a sustainable society. As part of its efforts to promote the use of renewable energy, it has installed a new solar power generation system to reduce CO2 emissions. The plant aims to accelerate these efforts and become a leading plant that achieves manufacturing that is considerate of people and the environment. FDK will continue to leverage the strengths of domestic production in Japan and, as a Smart Energy Partner, will continue to provide customers with proposals for the efficient use of electric energy in a safe and efficient manner by assembling advanced technologies. |
