FDK CORPORATION (Tokyo Stock Exchange 2nd Section: Code 6955) celebrates a cumulative global shipment total of 2 billion of its nickel metal-hydride battery cells in June, 2021.

Nickel metal-hydride batteries may be found in various applications, including but not limited to the consumer market, embedded products for dry-cell compatible home appliances, in-vehicle applications, power supply backup, and security.
FDK nickel metal-hydride batteries can be used across high(*1) and low temperatures thanks to FDK’s unique technology. Many customers seek out the enhanced performance characteristics and quality, with an extensive lineup available to meet the various individual requirements. As a result, FDK nickel metal-hydride batteries have the No. 1 share(*2) in the global market. Since the start of shipments in January 2010, FDK has steadily increased the number of cells shipped to reach 1 billion in December 2015. This year June, thanks to the continued strong support of dedicated and loyal customers, the 2 billion cell mark was surpassed.

FDK nickel metal-hydride batteries are manufactured in Japan to ensure safe and reliable use in all applications. High quality is achieved through Japanese craftsmanship, with a focus on precision and an eye trained to detail.
Nickel metal-hydride batteries are highly attractive to the European and U.S. markets striving to achieve individual SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) as this offers rechargeable batteries with high recyclability. FDK will continue a dedicated approach to this battery chemistry to achieve the next milestone: 3 billion cells until 2026.

As a Smart Energy Partner, FDK will continue our efforts in the support of efficient use of electric energy, and to cooperate with our most-valued customers to bring safe and comprehensive solutions through assembly of advanced technologies.

- Features of FDK’s nickel metal-hydride batteries -
(1) "High durability(*1)" as they can be utilized in a wider range of temperature (-40°C to +85°C).
(2) "High Safety" with resistance to over-charge and over-discharge while using a non-flammable electrolyte.
(3) "Environmentally friendly" with the possibility to recharged and use repeatedly (approximately 2,100 times(*3)).
(4) "Highly recyclability" with spent batteries able to be separated, refined and reused for nickel, cobalt, etc. (recycling rate: 77%(*4))
