FDK CORPORATION (Tokyo Stock Exchange 2nd Section: Code 6955) developed
the ultra-small and ultra-low profile Power inductor “MIPSKZ1608G” (1.6mm
x 0.8mm x 0.3mm maximum height) which was realized to reduce 40% of its
height in comparison with the conventional models of MIPSUZ2012D series. This “MIPSKZ1608G” is the most suitable power inductor for the power supply circuit of the mobile devices such as wearable devise, smart phone, tablet, and digital camera. In recent years, the number of parts used for mobile devices continued to increase with the high and multiple functionality. Thus, mounting space per part is reduced and the needs of passive components are required to be downsized and the profiles to be lowered. In addition, the mobile devices tend to use converter circuits which use battery energy effectively. FDK has been responding to the market trend and has been striving to downsize power inductors. The “MIPSKZ1608G” is designed to adopt bottom electrode structure, different from the conventional MIPSUZ2012D series. By adopting the original “ferrite material technology”, ”fine print technology”, and “Land Grid Array Package” structure, we were able to realize the smaller and lower profile models which are 40% lower in height than the conventional model of MIPSUZ2012D series. It enables to use high-density mounting on the modules, which have strict height limit on implementation, and thus it will contribute to the thinning of modules. In addition, since the product has a flat top surface, it is possible for the IC to be on-chip. By using the most suitable magnetic circuit design technology, the low-resistant inductors were realized. FDK will continuously extend the line-ups of the low-profile power inductors to respond to the customers’ needs.
