FDK Corporation and Fujitsu Microelectronics Limited*2 (FML) have jointly developed a new mobile WiMAX*1 module for mobile WiMAX devices. FDK's AC001 is the world's first mobile WiMAX module to support 2.3GHz, 2.5GHz and 3.5GHz frequency bands, almost all the frequencies set by the WiMAX Forum. As the next generation wireless broadband, mobile WiMAX is attracting attention because a large amount of data can be transmitted over long distances, even if traveling by car or train at speeds of 120 kilometers (75 miles) per hour. Mobile WiMAX provides a source of internet connectivity that can be connected anywhere, anytime. Mobile WiMAX technology was first deployed in Korea two years ago, and will be deployed in the United States, Europe and Taiwan this year, and in Japan next year. Its use is expected to spread around the world. FDK's new Mobile WiMAX module incorporates the baseband LSI, power management LSI and RF LSI developed by Fujitsu Microelectronics Limited. The RF LSI supports three major frequency bands of mobile WiMAX, thus offering mobile WiMAX terminal manufacturers the ability to introduce global WiMAX devices. FDK and FML have jointly tried to optimize the circuit and parts of the high frequency circuit in order to lower losses. The power consumption of the power supply is also lowered through the use of highly efficient DC-DC converters which benefit from FDK's highly-rated multilayer power inductors. The AC001 will be exhibited in CEATEC JAPAN 2008, booth #5C62, to be held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan from September 30 to October 4, 2008. Samples of the AC001 module will be available in late October.
